Pending You for Herdr

Herdr runs your coding agents in panes. The plugin shows which ones are waiting on you, and what for, and answers their cards with a key, without leaving the terminal.

What it does

Each waiting agent’s row says so, with its card’s question. A toast when a pane gains a card, a key to the next one, and a popup where you answer them.

Key or actionWhat it does
prefix+yThe popup: your cards, most pressing first, each with who asked and where. Signed in, a key answers the one you’ve chosen.
prefix+shift+yThe next pane waiting on you: blocking first, then by urgency.
Pending You: set upToasts, the sidebar’s card line, the keys, signing Herdr in and the Agents view, each on a yes.
Pending You: unconfigureTakes everything off again and signs Herdr out: Herdr has no uninstall step.

Set up

On the computer the Herdr server runs on, in one of its panes. The last line opens Pending You: set up.

TerminalShell
npx -y pendingyou@latest init
herdr plugin install recordplane/herdr-pendingyou
herdr plugin action invoke setup --plugin pendingyou.herdr
Not in Herdr’s marketplace yet
Until it is, link a copy of the plugin instead: herdr plugin link, with the folder of its files.
More than one Herdr server
Each one needs the plugin and its own sign-in: your Mac’s, and a server you reach on another computer. The keys in the config of the computer you attach from work for both.
Attaching from another computer
The sidebar’s lines, toasts and keys are read from the config of the computer you attach from: setup says what to add there.

Answering

Sign Herdr in and the popup answers your cards: a key for each option, y and n for an approval, your own words, Later, handing a card to another agent, and 5 seconds to take it back. It’s the first app on the person API.

TerminalShell
npx pendingyou app login herdr

Or say yes when setup asks. Your phone shows a card for it: Herdr, this computer, what it may do, and Allow as a press and hold. The agent that asked hears your answer as it would from anywhere else.

  • Only this computer’s cards. It signs in on the computer it runs on, and sees the cards of that computer’s assistants unless you tick every card.
  • Never high stakes.A card that spends money, can’t be undone or goes public opens in Pending You instead.
  • It says so.Its answers read “You answered in Herdr on build-01” on the card, and your phone stays quiet for build-01’s cards while you’re active in Herdr.
  • You can take it back.Remove it in Settings › Apps and devices, or run npx pendingyou app logout herdr. Its sign-in lasts 30 days.

Keys

In the popup, on the card you’ve chosen. ↑ and ↓ (or j and k) choose another.

What it keeps

On the computer, in your own folders, readable only by you.

FileWhat’s in it
~/.config/pendingyou/machine.jsonThe computer’s key, which proves which computer a sign-in is on. Never sent.
~/.config/pendingyou/apps/herdr.jsonHerdr’s sign-in, and the key its tokens are bound to. 0600.
~/.config/pendingyou/herdr.jsonWhether the badges are on.
The plugin’s state folderIts watcher’s lease, whether it’s on, the Agents view, and when you last pressed a key in the popup.

What it sends

Into Herdr: each waiting agent’s app, its name, how many cards wait, the most pressing card’s title (shortened, at most 80 characters) and how pressing. Never an answer or anything else of a card.

To Pending You, with each agent’s presence: the pane it runs in (w2:p1) and a hash naming the Herdr server, so the plugin can go from a card to its pane. Never the socket’s path or anything in the pane.

Signed in, as Herdr: the keys you press in the popup, and that you’re active in Herdr. The popup shows your cards only on your screen and writes none of them anywhere.
